About

The "SMAW on Pipe" course at The Weld Zone is designed for advanced welders looking to master the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process on pipes. This 120-hour comprehensive program covers advanced techniques, safety protocols, and education in SMAW welding to ISO standards. Participants will gain hands-on experience in proper PPE fit-up, material preparation, electrode weld angle and position, welding techniques, and understanding welding code criteria and regulations. The course includes practical training in various welding positions such as 1G (Rotated pipe), 2G (Horizontal weld), 5G (Fixed position pipe), and 6G (Pipe at 45-degree upright angle), using both E6010 and E7018 rods. Students will have the opportunity to weld in these positions and have their 6G position pipe welding specimens mechanically tested to ASME Section 9 code standards ASME B31.3 (Standard Pipe Construction code) acceptance criteria. In addition to practical skills, students will be tested on their lecture-based educational knowledge to fulfill lab and class hours. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion in SMAW (Stick) on pipe. Graduates will be equipped to perform high-quality, sound pipe welds in industrial plants, fabrication shops, and more, making them valuable assets in the welding industry.
